About Me

I am a blind writer and editor. I was born with glaucoma and aniridia, so my eyes can’t filter light. Between the ages of two and seven, I was able to see large print, but I always knew that I was going to be blind.

I began writing novels when I was twelve, and my love for editing started at the same time. I’ve always known that good writing depends on and grows from good editing, so growing up I practiced editing everything from novels and short stories to academic papers. Because of my love for words and grammar, I decided to take that love into the professional realm.

At Brigham Young University I received my Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Humanities with an English emphasis and a minor in editing. BYU’s editing program refined my copyediting and substantive editing skills, taught me to love the Chicago Manual of Style and Microsoft Word, and gave me practical editing experience in a variety of mediums, including novels, magazines, and online content.

In addition to being an editor, I'm a novelist and award-winning creative writer. I also taught myself to play piano and compose music when I was ten, and later performed in front of two thousand people. In short, I love creating in various mediums, whether composing, writing, singing in choir, or editing for Leading Edge, BYU’S premier science fiction and fantasy magazine.

As a blind woman, I deal every day with the stigma that my work is somehow subpar. I work extra hard to combat this idea, so you can bet I'm dedicated to doing as careful and thorough a job as I can for each and every manuscript.
